So how do you wear the ‘Soft Pant’? Good question.
- You must choose a style that flatters your body shape.
- Look for a style of ‘Soft Pant’ that has a leaner feel to it. Less volume will create a more flattering look, especially if you’re petite or have a fuller figure. Choose the fabric carefully. Light, drapey silks, cottons or blend jerseys will drape more elegantly and look more stylish. Lycra styles can work well too. Try to avoid the satin or wool versions as they tend to look overwhelming on most frames.
- Make sure the drop crotch sits well and that the folds fall neatly. An ill-fitting pair of ‘Soft Pants’ can be nasty to look at; like looking at a grown women in nappies…and that’s oh-so-not stylish!
- You want to wear the ‘Soft Pant’ with the ‘right’ top pieces that compliment your body shape and personality and that you keep your look proportionate and balanced. In order to balance out this full pant you want to pair it with slimmer fitting tops not baggy ones. But looser fitting classics like the pussy bow or ruffle blouse can look great too. Tailored cropped jackets and fitted Boyfriend blazers will complete any ‘Soft Pants’ outfit.
- Heels are a must. The higher the better! They add height and balance to the full leg ‘Soft Pant’ and keep your body looking lean and proportionate. Gladiator sandals or strappy stilettos look amazing! Flat shoes tend to kill this look faster that anything but in saying all that…the ‘right’ flat shoe, like TOMS can work on taller women.
- Accessories should be minimal. Wear one elegant piece around your neck or opt for some bangles. You can also add a wide, chunky belt for a more casual look.

Do you really think I can wear the ‘Soft Pant’?
The bottom-line is (no pun intended), you must be honest with how they look and feel on you. If they don’t look right, then they’re probably not right for you. If you don’t feel comfortable in them, then you’ll probably never feel comfortable in them. So pass on the ‘Soft Pant’, knowing that you’re making a good style choice for you.
It’s important for you as a woman to understand that not all styles and trends suit all body shapes and personalities. Know which ones do and pass on the ones that don’t.
Word on the Street: Some stylist say that the ‘Soft Pant’ can be worn by most body shapes and it’s very forgiving. Others feel it is best worn by the tall, slim figures only.
At Fashion Assist we feel the new ‘Soft Pant’ is a more ‘real-life’ wearable trend than its predecessor the Harem Pant ever was, so we and our clients are going to give them a try and see how they look. We’ll report back our findings at a later time.
