How A Designer Can Inspire

How a designer can inspire…

Never overlook designer style.
New York’s iconic fashion designer, Ralph Lauren may not fit your budget but his looks for Spring 2011 can inspire!

Getting married this July, a Fashion Assist client shared how she wants her 2nd wedding ceremony and dress to be simple and elegant but not traditional. She wants a dress that is feminine but not fussy, understated but not dull and reflective of her Bohemian/Contemporary style.

Ralph Lauren inspired and this is what transpired…

Varying in their degree of formality but similar in their blend of lady-like glamour and bohemian cool.

How a designer can inspire…
no matter your budget.

“Something as simple as changing what you wear can change how you feel; especially for us mummies.” ~ Janeen Joyce, Founder and Senior Fashion Consultant of Fashion Assist

“After being a mummy for 25 years I’ve learned a few things. First, being a mummy is the toughest job in the world. Second, as a mummy your needs seem to fall to the bottom of the priority list. All of a sudden it seems “ok” to stop caring about how you look and to let your clothes become the definition of ‘non-style’ or ‘drab’- not good. Third, mummies need to be encouraged to think about themselves every day, even if it is only for a moment.

Their closets need to be a place of joy where they can find clothes they love and feel good in, just like Linda! Something as simple as changing what you wear can change how you feel; especially for us mummies.”

Who is Linda you ask? Read more to find out…

The above excerpt was taken from a recently published article that I wrote for the YummyMummyClub.ca

I’d love it if you mummies would take a few minutes to read the article and share what you think.

Do you agree that something as simple as changing what you wear can change how you feel; especially for us mummies?

PS Be sure to check out this week’s ‘Real Life Street Style’. http://fashionassist.wordpress.com/real-life-street-style/klklklk/ Like Linda, this ‘Yummy Mummy’ definitely knows the  joy of wearing clothes she loves and feels good in!

“For those who don’t have an inate sense of style, it is important to learn how to dress just as we learn to do other things in our lives that we are not as great at.” ~ Adam Glassman, Creative Director of O. The Oprah Magazine

Meet Heather. Two years ago she came to Fashion Assist looking like this:

I must say, she’s come a long ways since this picture was taken!

With the help of Fashion Assist, Heather worked one-on-one with a fashion consultant, learning how to dress her best. She moved from her old, frumpy look to a youthful, age appropriate, modern look.  She ‘ramped up’ her wardrobe and style quite a few notches!

Meet Heather today.

A month ago she contacted Fashion Assist again. She wrote, “I would really like a review of my wardrobe to see if I’m still on track and to see what items I should be adding to it. Reviewing my notes from last time we met, I think I have fallen down some. I have some questions regarding leggings and “skinny” jeans that I would like to review with you…Can I wear them at my age? And if so, how do I wear them?”

She booked an appointment with Fashion Assist and this is what she learned.

In a few weeks Heather is going to be celebrating a very BIG birthday…shhhh!!! Four of her best friends are taking her away for a celebratory ‘Girls’ Weekend’. Heather now has a more sophisticated, feminine casual wardrobe to take away with her that better reflects the fabulous woman she is! She’s excited about her upcoming birthday and weekend away. But I think she’s even more excited about wearing skinny jeans!!!

See, I think she looks amazing in them! And I don’t think she looks a day over 40…or is that 50….???…hmmmm…

What do you think?
